New York, New Jersey could get up to 5 inches of snow from Nor’Easter next week

Parts of New York and New Jersey could be blanketed with up to five inches of snow next week as a potential Nor’Easter is set to hit the East Coast.

In the Empire State, the storm system could dump three to five inches of snow lower Hudson Valley on Tuesday, according to Fox Weather meteorologists.

The Big Apple may experience some flurries early Tuesday, but it will likely shift to rain, the meteorologists said. New York City should expect one to two inches of precipitation.

Northwest New Jersey, meanwhile, could get one to three inches of snow on Tuesday.

The Big Apple typically records 4.8 inches of snowfall in December, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The city, however, rarely sees a white Christmas. The last time it snowed in the five boroughs on Christmas Day was in 2009.

Gotham was blanketed with two inches of snow on Christmas Eve in 2024, marking the first white Christmas Eve in the city since 1996.

The Garden State typically records 5.4 inches of snow in December, according to the NOAA.

The potential Nor’Easter comes after a major cross-country storm system saw over 1,800 flights cancelled in the US on Saturday and over 7,000 delays, according to flight-tracking website Flight Aware.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport was the hardest hit, with over 600 cancellations.

The snowfall led to a dramatic 45-car pileup on I-70 near Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday.

No major injuries or deaths were reported.

A polar vortex is also set to hit the US next week, plunging 235 million Americans into below-freezing temperatures, Fox Weather reported.

Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin could suffer the bone-chilling temps.
