As a rift grows within the Republican Party, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) publicly challenged President Donald Trump’s recent immigration policy proposal following the deadly shooting of two National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.
After 20-year-old servicemember Sarah Beckstrom was killed by an Afghan national, Trump furiously proposed sweeping immigration measures. His recommendations included a permanent pause on migration from third-world countries, terminating millions of what he called illegal admissions under former President Joe Biden, and removing people deemed not an asset to the United States.
“Immigration Policy has eroded technological gains and living conditions,” Trump insisted. He suggested that “REVERSE MIGRATION” was the sole solution for the country’s hurdles. He vowed to complete these objectives to reduce “illegal and disruptive populations.”
Greene, once a staunch Trump supporter but now a vocal critic, responded with a cryptic warning, in comments flagged by The Daily Beast.
“One of the worst mistakes you can ever make is over promise and under deliver,” she wrote on X, seemingly implying that Trump’s ambitious proposals might be unrealistic. ”It will leave people furious to the point they won’t even appreciate the good things they received. Big promises have and still are being made…”
The tension between Greene and Trump has escalated significantly. After announcing her resignation from Congress effective in January, Trump labeled her a “traitor” and yanked his endorsement. Greene reported receiving death threats amid the president’s rhetoric.
In her resignation announcement, Greene expressed frustration with the potential political fallout, stating she did not want her district to endure a hurtful and hateful primary.
Greene’s critiques have come at a pivotal moment for Republicans, who have a precarious majority with 219 seats compared to 213 for the Democrats. Upcoming special elections in Tennessee, Texas and New Jersey could further destabilize their position, reported Punchbowl News.
