Following President Donald Trump’s decision to authorize airstrikes on three nuclear-related sites in Iran—Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz—state and local leaders across California have taken steps to monitor for potential threats. Protests also erupted in Los Angeles in response to the military action.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a public statement on X, noting that while there are currently no known credible threats to public safety, city officials are taking additional precautions.

“Following the bombings in Iran, Los Angeles is closely monitoring for any threats to public safety. There are no known credible threats at this time and out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites,” she wrote. “We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom also addressed the developments, emphasizing that the state is staying alert in coordination with national security agencies.

“Following the President’s action in Iran, California’s State Threat Assessment Center is actively monitoring for any potential impacts in California,” Newsom said. “While there are no specific or credible counter threats we are aware of at this time, we urge everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.”

The airstrikes have sparked both political debate and public protest. In Downtown Los Angeles, demonstrators gathered shortly after news of the strikes broke. They voiced strong opposition to the U.S. military’s actions.

“The people of Los Angeles are taking to the streets in Downtown to demand an end to the war on Iran, on our migrants, and on Gaza!” read a post from organizers on Instagram. “We are here alongside over 30 organizations to show the world that LA rejects U.S. military intervention, and to make it clear that our movements will only continue to grow and strengthen and unite in confrontation of Zionism and U.S. imperialism. Arms embargo now! No war! No deportations! No occupation!”

On Sunday, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Wilshire Federal Building. They waved signs and chanted slogans as part of a growing wave of demonstrations seen in cities across the country.

The White House has not yet announced any follow-up actions. National security officials say they are continuing to monitor the global and domestic response.
