The Minnesota Timberwolves came up short once again in the Western Conference Finals. For the second straight year, they came up one series short of a trip to the NBA Finals.

With those two straight losses comes frustration and realization. It’s clear that the Timberwolves need to make a move or two in order to get over the hump.

One potential rumored option has been pursuing Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns. While Minnesota has been linked often to Durant since its season comes to an end, a trade does not seem likely.

A new report has come out that likely puts any hope of Durant teaming up with Anthony Edwards to rest.

According to a report from ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Durant has “no desire” to play for the Timberwolves.

“I’m told Kevin Durant has no desire to be in Minnesota with the Timberwolves,” Charania said.

Durant would have been an interesting fit for Minnesota. He would have been able to take a lot of scoring pressure off of Edwards and keep defenses from zeroing in on the young superstar shooting guard. However, he may not have interest in playing alongside Edwards.

Truthfully, the real question about the potential fit would have been whether or not Durant and Edwards would have fit alongside each other. They both play best with the basketball in their hands and they look to create their own shot. Chris Finch would have had his work cut out for him.

Right now, there are three teams leading the way as potential suitors for Durant. Those three teams are the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs.

With Durant likely no longer an option for the Timberwolves, the team will have to look elsewhere to make an upgrade. There are plenty of other players who could be available for the right price they could pursue.

It will be interesting to see what Minnesota chooses to do this offseason. Unfortunately, those hoping to see Durant join the team will likely not see that situation unfold.

Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding the Timberwolves as the offseason gets underway. Just as interesting will be watching to see where Durant gets traded.
