HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After a mostly cloudy and rainy weekend, the rain and storm threat is forecast to continue for the start of the week.
The Weather Authority will be monitoring the chance for isolated strong to severe storms Monday afternoon and evening.
The cut-off low will remain in place across the south. The counter-clockwise rotation around the low will support a continued flow of deep moisture into the region. With plenty of instability or energy, along with moisture in place, storms will quickly develop by the afternoon and evening hours.
Along with the storms, scattered showers will also be possible
A batch of rain with pockets of moderate to heavy downpours will move into the area Sunday night. An isolated thunderstorm will also be possible during this time. Outside of storms, winds will be gusting over 25 mph.
The higher chance of rain and storms will arrive during the peak daytime heating hours. Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible, especially in North Alabama. After sunset, the threat of storms will slowly diminish.
Timing for the strongest storm development will be between 12 pm and 10 pm.
Storms that can develop will be capable of producing strong winds over 50 mph, large hail (quarter-size or larger), locally heavy rain, and frequent lightning. With the recent rain we’ve received, weak trees could come down.
Additional rainfall will lead to rises in local creeks, rivers, and streams.
