Dr. Mehmet Oz’s granddaughter is on the mend after she fainted during a press event at the White House Friday — with the 11-year-old’s mother thanking President Trump for his compassion during the brief medical scare.
The celebrity physician turned Centers for Medicare & Medicaid boss said his granddaughter, Philomena, swiftly recovered with some ice cream after she collapsed in the Oval Office Friday afternoon and brought a question-and-answer session with the president to a screeching halt.
“Thank you to everyone who has checked in on our granddaughter Philomena after her eventful afternoon in the Oval Office,” Oz said Sunday on Instagram, with a photo of the girl enjoying her sweet treat.
“I am grateful to report that she recovered quickly and was treated to delicious Navy Mess soft serve and some very special time speaking with President Trump while they explored the treasure drawer of the Resolute Desk together.”
The 64-year-old had just been sworn in when Trump began taking questions on several topics from the assembled press pool.
Minutes later, pandemonium broke out when the young girl hit the floor.
Oz rushed to his granddaughter’s side as White House aides cleared reporters and photographers away from the alarming scene. Trump eventually walked over to check on the youngster.
Philomena’s mother, Daphne Oz, said the 11-year-old “bounced right back” in an Instagram post where she also shared her gratitude to Trump and relief that the fainting spell was “nothing serious.”
“Thank you to the incredible White House team and medical staff who were so kind to her,” Daphne posted Sunday morning, with multiple photos of her daughter and family at the White House.
“Most of all, thank you to President Trump who went out of his way to make both our children feel comfortable in a stressful situation. He was exceedingly warm, caring and generous as he spent personal time with each of them at the Resolute Desk and gifted them treasures to take home.”
