The Tritons won the Big West Championship with a 75-61 victory over UC Irvine in the final to book their ticket to the Round of 64. Hayden Gray scored a season-high 22 points in the win for UC San Diego, and they now get a matchup with a Michigan team that just won the Big Ten Tournament. The Wolverines beat Purdue, Mayland, and Wisconsin on their way to the title.
Vladislav Goldin might be tough for the Tritons to handle in the paint. At 7’1″, Goldin gives Michigan a go-to big man in the post who is averaging 16.7 points per game. He was 9-15 with 25 points and 10 rebounds in their win over Maryland and has reached double figures in seven straight games.
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones is having a fantastic season for UC San Diego, leading the team with 19.5 points a night, which ranks 28th in the NCAA. He gets to the free low line often and could get the Wolverines in foul trouble early if he gets it going in the first half. Tait-Jones also gets his teammates involved as a playmaker, and he had eight assists in their Big West title game.
