From Feb. 27 to April 30, Pokémon TCG Pocket players can log in and get three three free Genetic Apex booster packs that guarantee at least one rare card.
The months-long giveaway is in celebration of a big Pokémon Day milestone — 100 million downloads across iOS and Android. That’s a 40 million increase in players since the last update of 60 million downloads in December. Pokémon TCG Pocket was released in October and became an immediate success for the company. Since then, The Pokémon Company has released several expansion booster packs and run a series of different events.
When you log in, you’ll find the three booster packs in your gifts section; it’s one each of the Mewtwo, Charizard, and Pikachu packs from the Genetic Apex expansion. There are five cards in each pack, as is customary, but the fifth card is guaranteed to be rated at four diamonds or higher, according to a news release.
Alongside the giveaway, The Pokémon Company announced the next themed booster pack coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket: Triumphant Light. The booster pack is centered around an Arceus ex card, but adds a bunch of others too, like Leafeon ex and Glaceon ex, with some cards featuring new Link Abilities. The new booster pack will be added to Pokémon TCG Pocket on Friday. Ranked matches are expected to be added to the game in March.
Overall, it was a busy Thursday for Pikachu and friends. The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Champions, a new battle-focused game in development, and gave players an extended peek at Pokémon Legends: Z-A, expected out late this year. Missed the event? Polygon’s got you covered.
