Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have boarded a plane from Romania to America after the Trump administration made clear its backing for the MAGA-supporting social media influencers.

BBC News and local media in Romania reported that the Tate brothers, who hold dual U.S. and UK citizenship, departed Bucharest on a private jet shortly after 5AM local time.

The Tates were first detained in Romania in 2022 on human trafficking, sexual misconduct, and money laundering charges. The brothers, who have millions of online followers, deny wrongdoing.

There was a flurry of reports earlier this month that U.S. officials had asked Romania to relax travel restrictions against the brothers, who have been in and out of house arrest.

The Financial Times reported that officials asked Romania to return the brothers’ passports and allow them to travel while they wait for the court proceedings against them to conclude.

Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu said U.S. President Donald Trump‘s envoy Richard Grenell had raised Tate’s case with him. Grenell told the FT that he did not have a substantive conversation with Hurezeanu, but added: “I support the Tate brothers as evident by my publicly available tweets.”

Tate, a self-described misogynist, is a vocal Trump supporter, arguing that the president is “saving America along with the entire western world.”

Earlier this month, he tweeted: “The Tates will be free, Trump is the president. The good old days are back. And they will be better than ever. Hold on.”
