As I’ve written before, I’ve tried a lot of sex toys. A lot. In fact, unless it’s a brand spanking new product, there’s a good chance I’ve tried it. And if I haven’t tried a specific model, I’ve tried one of its incarnations. While I have some bragging rights in the sex-toy-trying department (I’ve tested hundreds), there’s one very popular toy that I’d somehow never tried: the Lovehoney Rose vibrator. Why? Frankly, I don’t know. But all that changed this past weekend.
My initial thoughts on Lovehoney’s Rose Clitoral Stimulator
I can’t say the rose wowed me at first. Unlike some brands that go all out with their packaging and presentation, Lovehoney keeps it simple which, from an environmental standpoint, I support. When I took the rose out of the box, it was heavier than I expected. I’m not saying it was heavy like a wand vibrator, but it had a bit of weight to it.
As I do with every toy I’m trying for the first time, I immediately plugged it in to charge it while I flipped through the instructions. It’s an easy clit sucker to figure out, but I wanted to make sure it was waterproof (it is) and needed to know how many vibration modes it has (10). Although it has a hard base, allowing it to sit upright on its own, the rest of the body is made of silicone, with the top being soft and flexible. For me, that’s plus; I’ve never been a fan of hard sex toys—there’s something so sterile and impersonal about them. Once the pink light stopped flashing on my rose, I knew it was fully charged and it was go time.

How I tested
I’ve learned—finally—that to get the most out of suction toys, water-based lube is key. My lube supply is currently down to sample packets from different brands, so after fishing around in my nightstand drawer, I found a sample of Lelo’s personal moisturizer (great lube, BTW). I applied the lube to the mouth of the rose, then made my way to my vulva.
What I noticed first was that the mouth is a fairly good size. Some clit suckers come with a couple different size mouths to accommodate different sizes of clitorises, but this standard size worked well for me. (To the best of my knowledge, the external part of my clitoris is average size.) I began to make my way through the speeds (there are six), and found that by the fifth one things got really strong, so I rolled back to the fourth to prevent myself from coming too soon. I found that the fourth intensity was a good place for me, but decided to check out the patterns (there are four) before I let the inevitable orgasm enter the picture. Also, I’m devoted to some proper edging almost every time I masturbate and in being a creature of habit and suspicion, I wasn’t about to mess with my usual routine.
Of the four pulse patterns—and as I’ve written before, I’m not big on patterns—it was the third I enjoyed best. While all the air pulsations were interesting in their own way, the third one in the lineup has a subtle build up, then release pattern that I enjoyed as much as I can enjoy patterns. But by this point, I already knew what it was going to take for me to climax, so I rolled on back to the fourth intensity—where, yes, I had an orgasm, but it wasn’t something that left my legs shaking and quaking.
As I always do after using a sex toy of any kind, I headed to the bathroom to clean it. It was at this point that, in being a painfully clumsy human being, I dropped it in the sink, it turned itself on, and the mouth popped off. Did I break it? I thought so. But, to my delight, there was a vibrating nub in the center of the silicone petals. I knew immediately that that nub would be my ticket to one heck of an intense orgasm because I’m a direct-clitoral-contact gal and that’s what the nub was promising me.
For round two, I lubed back up and got to work. What I liked about the mouthless rose wasn’t just the direct contact on my clit, but the fact that it allowed for greater surface coverage so more my vulva was in on the action with the fantastic, all-encompassing vibrations. It was definitely strong and I wouldn’t recommend it to those who are sensitive, but I loved it. Usually my second orgasm of the day isn’t quite as intense as the first, but in this case, thanks to vibration versus suction, it was deep and strong. Not explosive or anything, but really satisfying and leaving me uninterested in another round. Also, the rose only has about an hour’s worth of playtime and I didn’t feel like running the risk of it dying on me before I could charge it again.
My final thoughts
I genuinely like the Lovehoney Rose Clitoral Suction Stimulator. It’s USB-A rechargeable, waterproof, has a decent amount of vibration modes, and has something for those who love either suction or vibration or both. While it’s not quiet, if that’s something you’re concerned about, it’s very affordable—especially when it comes to suction toys. Although I’ve only used it during solo sex sessions so far, based on its size and accessibility, it can be easily used with a partner of any gender or sexuality—it can also be used anywhere on the body.
If you’re looking for a discreet sex toy that’s going to get the job done, whether you’re alone or with a partner, I highly recommend this rose. Buy it for yourself because you deserve it or give it as a gift to someone you love because sharing is caring—either way, it’s a fun addition to any collection.
