Fox Entertainment Group is turning back time with a new international format pilot titled Young Again. The show comes from The Masked Singer creator Wonwoo Park and uses tech to de-age senior contestants who then embark on dates as younger versions of themselves.

Nathalie Wogue, SVP, Global Formats, at Fox Entertainment Group shared a sneak peek at the show during a Deadline-moderated session with other formats execs, which took place on the morning of the first-ever MIP London.

Fox is out to market with the format and looking for partners. Notably, the show is not necessarily destined for the Fox broadcast network and could end up getting made in an international market first.

Fox has a first-look development deal with Wonwoo Park, who brought it the idea, Wogue explained.

“The Masked Singer is still one of [the Fox network’s] biggest shows, and also the one that’s representative of our DNA. Wonwoo Park came with this idea of a big reality dating show with senior people who, using AI, will be able to date as their younger selves,” Wogue said as she introduced a teaser clip.

Wogue told the packed MIP London room that Fox is keen to take risks and will buy off paper. It will then work up ideas into trailers or pilots, which is what has happened with Young Again. “When we started it was really just a log line,” she said of the Wonwoo Park format. “We really worked a lot on making it something very visual and something that would really fit our DNA of a strong, loud show.”

The pilot was filmed with U.S. contestants in Australia. Wogue said that the creative idea has to come first but Fox is increasingly looking to shoot abroad, which allows it to forge international partnerships as well as making use of tax credits and incentives offered in many territories. U.S. shows for Fox including Name That Tune, Next Level Chef and The Floor are already filmed in Ireland.
