Drake officially withdrew his legal petition in the state of New York against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, after the artist accused them of inflating the numbers of Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track “Not Like Us.”

Journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul took to X to reveal that Drizzy’s Frozen Moments, LLC filed a Withdrawal Order of petition with the Supreme Court against the two companies on January 14. Frozen Moments, LLC is discontinuing the legal proceedings with no financial cost to any of the parties involved; Spotify, which previously which filed an opposition, had no objection to the withdrawal while UMG “reserved its position on the matter.”

While The Boy’s petition against the companies are now resolved in New York court, his filing against UMG and iHeartRadio in the state of Texas is currently still active and will be discussed on January 28.

In November 2024, Drake alleged that UMG and Spotify illegally boosted the popularity of “Not Like Us” by using bots and payola, and claimed that the label violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He also accused iHeartRadio of utilizing a “pay-to-play scheme” as a way to promote “Not Like Us” on the airwaves, with UMG “[funnelling] payments” to the platform.
