I’m not trying to hypnotize you with that headline, or am I? For many years, buying an OLED TV has been considered a huge splurge, but prices have come down significantly on these pixel-perfect TVs. If you’re content with a 48-inch TV (big, but not too big), one of the best early Black Friday deals is on the LG B4 OLED, and it has your name all over it. It’s back down to $599.99 exclusively at Best Buy, which is a tremendous deal, frankly, for any movie- or game-loving person.
The B4 is one rung below the C4, which is considered to be LG’s de facto OLED. However, you’re not missing out on as much the $400 price difference might lead you to assume. According to technical reviews site RTINGS, the C4 can display HDR content with more brightness, and the C4 combats glare better than the B4. However, the B4 has the same high-end gaming features that’ll help you get the most enjoyment out of games on your PS5 (or PS5 Pro), Xbox Series X, and PC, which for some of us is the most important factor when choosing a TV. This includes its 120 Hz native refresh rate, and HDMI 2.1 ports that can display your games at up to 4K resolution. In other words, games will look buttery smooth on the B4.
Anything you watch or play on the B4 will look considerably better than on non-OLED TVs. Unlike LCD-based TVs, OLED pixels are lit individually as opposed to lighting zone clusters with pixels that light up all at once. That means the B4’s per-pixel control lets it color and illuminate (or provide pitch black darkness to) any scene with unmatched precision. To say that it’s immersive to watch a horror movie in the dark on an OLED is underselling it. On the flip side, anything popping with color (like, say, a Pixar movie) is just a joyous treat to behold.
