Recently, NXT, WWE’s developmental brand, has been experiencing new success sue to a crossover with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
Multiple TNA wrestlers, including Joe Hendry and TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace, have appeared on WWE television.
Next up was the popular TNA tag team The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel), who were set to have a match for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Unfortunately, it looks like this won’t be the case.
WWE NXT general manager Ava took to social media to announce that The Rascalz would be unable to participate in their match against Axiom & Nathan Frazer.
“As WWE Week on USA kicks off with Monday Night Raw I have some unfortunate news,” Ava said. “Due to somewhat conspicuous circumstances, The Rascalz are unable to compete tomorrow night.”
Ava then revealed that Axiom & Frazer would still defend their championship to open NXT. Now, they’ll be going head-to-head against the Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins AKA The Street Profits.
While no reason was given for The Rascalz being pulled from the match, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that Miguel was about to undergo an unexpected minor surgery.
Hopefully, Miguel will be able to make a full recovery and will find his way back to the squared circle soon.
The Rascalz originally formed in 2017 with Wentz and Dezmond Xavier. They soon included Miguel and Myron Reed to fully form the stable.
After spending some years on the independent circuit, the team soon found themselves in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) and TNA, then known as Impact Wrestling.
In 2020, Wentz and Xavier signed with WWE, debuting on the NXT brand in 2021 as Nash Carter and Wes Lee with the new name MSK. Together, they would go on to defeat the Grizzled Young Veterans to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They would also win the NXT Tag Team Titles twice.
In 2022, Wentz was released from WWE, leaving Lee to stay as a singles competitor. Wentz then proceeded to reform The Rascalz with Miguel and Reed, who would go on to wrestle on the independent circuit and TNA.
The Rascalz reunited with Lee in 2024, but it eventually resulted in a betrayal from Lee.
The Rascalz/MSK have won tag team championships across nine promotions, including TNA, PWG, Combat Zone Wrestling, and WWE NXT.
Individually, Wentz is currently the TNA X Division Champion. Lee won the NXT North American Championship, holding the title for a record-breaking 269 days.
