Need a friend like Sandra Bullock. For TODAY host Hoda Kotb’s 60th birthday, the show enlisted her friends to create special birthday messages, and the video card from Bullock was so endearing and so inspiring.
“Hoda, Hoda, Hoda, Hoda. I had so many brilliant and funny things prepared for you, for this message…but you know girl, I’m just too tired!” the Oscar-winner, who hit the milestone 6-0 birthday on July 26, told her friend, explaining, “Tired because I had to make my way up that mountain before you got there so I could check out the terrain and see what things look like and get the feel so I could fill you in.”
“It’s weird, because people seem to want us to be afraid of what it might look like when we get there. It turns out it’s pretty damn great, it’s pretty awesome,” Bullock continued. She didn’t list all the reasons she loves getting older, but she did say that one perk is being able to swear on television (bleeped out, of course), because it just doesn’t matter anymore. It’s so good to see Sandra Bullock looking happy and at peace, as she lost her longtime partner Bryan Randall to ALS just a year ago and has, understandably, barely been seen since. But of course she showed up for an important female friendship.
Kotb went on to credit Bullock, who adopted her children, for giving her the confidence to adopt her two daughters and become a mother later in life. “The reason that I have Haley and Hope is because when I was looking for inspiration of somebody who was a mom at my age, Sandra Bullock popped up and I called her and I said, ‘Tell me about motherhood,’ and she said, ‘It is the best decision I ever made,’ and from that moment forward, she led the way,” Kotb said. Can I call Sandra Bullock for life advice some time?
