The injuries continue to pile up for the NFL, as a multitude of season-ending injuries have swept across the league. The Detroit Lions are the latest to be hit with a lost player, as tackle Connor Galvin has been ruled out for 2024.

Jeremy Fowler reported that Galvin suffered a torn MCL during Thursday night’s preseason game. The MCL injury will report in Galvin needing season-ending surgery.
Galvin was set to serve as a backup tackle behind Penei Sewell. Colby Sorsdal, Dan Skipper, and Giovanni Manu are now the remaining backup tackles angling for a spot behind Sewell and left tackle Taylor Decker.
Galvin began his football journey after committing to Baylor, after receiving offers from UCLA, Florida, TCU, and Colorado.
Galvin’s freshman year saw the tackle appear in 13 games, along with five starts. During his sophomore year, Galvin upped his starts to nine, though he only appeared in 10 games due to an injury.
Galvin continued to become a solid offensive lineman through five years at Baylor. During his senior year, he was named the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and named an All-American by the Associated Press. Galvin appeared in 58 games throughout his five years in college.
Galvin would end up joining the Lions as an undrafted free agent in the 2023 season. He would be waived in Aug. 2023 and signed to the practice squad immediately after. Galvin signed a futures contract with the Lions on Jan. 30, 2024.
The hope was that Galvin would serve as the direct backup for Sewell at the right tackle position, but he will now have to wait to see the field again until the 2025 season.
The Lions were hit hard with injuries during their first preseason game, as Galvin wasn’t the only big-time injury. Quarterback Hendon Hooker suffered a concussion and defensive lineman David Bada also suffered an Achilles injury.
The good news is Hooker can return after he successfully goes through concussion protocol. He showed some promise during Thursday night’s action, including breaking off for an incredible run while mowing down a Giants defender.

Bada, on the other hand, might miss significant time. He might also miss the entire 2024 season based on whether the Achilles injury was a full tear. Though he could theoretically return if and when the Lions hit the postseason, recovering from an Achilles tear can take a long time to recover.
Bada was just signed by the Lions in July and was competing for a roster spot.
