Tom Brady shared a cryptic message about enduring the “betrayal of false friends” hours after ex-wife Gisele Bündchen’s tell-all Vanity Fair cover story released.
The once-again retired NFL quarterback appeared to hit back at some of her statements by using a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson on his Instagram Story that clarified what “success” actually means.
“What is success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends,” the quote began.
The famed essayist’s quote further described success as finding the “best in others” and “leaving the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or esteemed social condition…”
Brady added three red hearts over the post.
While it’s unclear if Brady, 45, took exception to the entire interview or only parts of it, it’s obvious that the former Victoria’s Secret Angel used it as an opportunity to share her side of the story in the divorce, including addressing rumors that she gave him an ultimatum to retire.
“If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me,” she clarified. “I want him to achieve and to conquer.

“I want all his dreams to come true,” Bündchen continued, adding that she is not “somebody who is against football.”
The businesswoman also claimed that politics “never” made her pull the plug on their 13-year marriage.
Bündchen, 42, also candidly addressed her “challenging” relationship with Brady’s ex Bridget Moynahan, who shares 15-year-old son Jack with the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
“I have a great relationship with her,” Bündchen said of the “Serendipity” actress before noting that “everything in life comes with work.”
“You have to go through the roller coaster,” she went on, not-so-subtly referring to the fact that Jack was born only months after Brady began dating Bündchen.
“You have moments where you get to the sticky points and you’ve gotta overcome it.”
And while there have been plenty of rumors swirling about the Brazilian model’s love life, she officially shot down the hearsay that she’s dating billionaire Jeffrey Soffer.
“I have zero relationship with him in any way,” she said. “He’s Tom’s friend, not my friend.”
To further drive the point home, she added, “I wouldn’t be with this guy. I mean, puh-leeze.”
