Jane Fonda has broken her silence on the upcoming remake of her 1960s film “Barbarella” which will be headlined by budding star Sydney Sweeney.

The 85-year-old veteran actress couldn’t help but express her concern about the project in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Friday.

When asked what she thinks about the Hollywood remake of her sci-fi flick, Fonda had this to say, “I try not to. Because I worry about what it’s going to be.”

Fonda is not involved in any way with the project. The 1968 original cemented her status as a sex symbol. However, she admitted that she had some regrets when it came out.

“I had an idea of how to do it that [original producer] Dino De Laurentiis, when he was still alive, wouldn’t listen to. But it could have been a truly feminist movie,” she told the outlet.

Last October, Sweeney, 25, dropped a bombshell when she shared a poster of the original film on her Instagram and captioned it, “Time to save the universe.”

Her post received mixed reactions, but many expressed their support for her version of “Barbarella.” One fan said the movie would be “iconic.” Another commented, “A reboot is long overdue and you’re ideal casting.”

Meanwhile, it wasn’t the first time Fonda expressed regret over doing “Barbarella.” During a 2015 panel at Sundance Film Festival, she openly spoke about the changes that happened to her career after starring in the camp classic.

“I took the easy road for a while. I would say that ended with ‘Barbarella.’ I liked doing something that caused a certain generation of men to have their first erections. But then I became an activist,” she said at the time.

At present, Fonda has been using her platform to bring attention to causes she’s fighting for and cares about.

“I recently thought, ‘Maybe I do want to quit acting,’ I mean, I’m 85. But then I realized my platform matters. It brings people in that might not come in normally,” the “80 for Brady” star told THR.

She continued, “I was happy to turn 82 in jail [after my 2019 arrest after a protest]. Because I knew it would get a lot of attention.”

Fonda frequently joins the D.C. “Fire Drill Friday” protests that seek to draw attention to climate change, according to Us Weekly.
