Alec Baldwin was unabashedly hawking his wife Hilaria’s Instagram account and begged fans to throw her a follow request in celebration of her 39th birthday.
“Hey everybody. It’s January 5th, the day before my wife’s birthday. It is my wife Hilaria’s birthday tomorrow January 6th. We don’t attach the same significance to January 6th as other people do,” Alec said in a video shared to his Instagram on Thursday, referring to the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill. “We just say it’s Hilaria’s birthday.”
The “30 Rock” star, 64, then went on to ask his fans for a “small favor.”
“My wife is just, it seems like she’s just centimeters shy of 1 million followers on Instagram,” he said. “And I would like to ask you, as a birthday gift, or even just [a] gesture to my wife, would you follow her on Instagram?”
Alec expressed how much he loves his wife and how much the extra follows would mean to her on her big day.
“Obviously, I love my wife. Obviously, I’m crazy about my wife. Obviously, blah blah blah, all the things we all say about people we’re in love with,” he said. “My wife’s the most fabulous person I’ve ever met in my whole life. That’s true. That’s true. that’s definitely true.”
The actor then went on to beg once more for Instagram users to follow the yogi so she could reach 1 million followers as a birthday gift.
“I would like as many of you as possible. I would like a really great, great, surge of you to follow my wife on Instagram to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to her,” he said, before pleading, “Would you do that for me? Would you follow my wife on Instagram? Please? Thanks.”
While several fans commented on his post saying that they were happy to throw Hilaria a follow, others poked fun at Alec for making the request.
“what’s wrong with you, I adored you. Now I think your loosing your mind,” one person commented on the post.
“I would have respected a request to assist a charity to honour her birthday rather than concern ourselves about his wife’s insta followers tally! Aren’t there more pressing things in the world you could address on both your l,” a second person wrote.
“This is her gift? No judgment but really?…I agree with others…how about donations…ridiculous,” another agreed.
“Why does your wife care if 1 million strangers ‘like’ her? You, your family and friends all ‘love’ your bride. Isn’t that what really matters?” a confused follower asked.
A fourth person echoed the same sentiment, writing, “I already follow her…. But I’m really puzzled is this a joke? Wondering how this matters to her, surely she doesn’t care for how many followers she has right? In the big scheme of things, life her being a Mum ur wife etc etc is this really important?”
“Are you referencing centimeters instead of inches as a nod to her Spanish heritage?” added another, referencing Hilaria’s scandal where she was caught lying about her Spanish heritage.
Another referenced the scandal, saying, “Wait. Isnt her name hilary????”
Hilaria was born Hillary Hayward-Thomas and hails from Massachusettes despite convincing the public she is from Spain and has a Spanish accent. Alec also found himself wrapped up in a scandal after his involvement in the deadly “Rust” shooting in 2021.
As of Friday morning, Hilaria was still at 995,000 Instagram followers, signaling that she may not get her Birthday wish of 1 Million followers.
The duo, who tied the knot in 2012, share seven children: Carmen, 9, Rafael, 7, Leonardo, 6, Romeo, 4, Eduardo, 2, Lucia, 2, and 3-month old Ilaria.
Alec also shares 27-year-old daughter, Ireland, with ex-wife Kim Basinger. He and Basinger were married from 1993 to 2002.
