Grisly new details have emerged in Jeremy Renner’s freak snowplow accident — the “Hurt Locker” star was “completely crushed” by the machine, causing “extreme difficulty” in breathing.
A 911 emergency log said the right side of Renner’s chest collapsed and his upper torso was crushed under the nearly 14,500-pound plow after it ran over him on New Year’s Day in Reno, Nevada, TMZ reported Wednesday.
The Marvel actor could reportedly be heard moaning in the background of the call as he experienced “extreme difficulty” breathing and was bleeding heavily from his head.
Prior to the log’s release, little detail was known of Renner’s injuries. A representative for Renner confirmed he “suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries,” but didn’t disclose further details. A neighbor said the snowplow ran over one of Renner’s legs.
The Academy Award-nominated actor posted an Instagram picture Tuesday — looking bloodied and bruised, with the caption, “Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”
The 51-year-old actor underwent surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition, a rep said.
Renner was using his Kässbohrer PistenBully snowplow to help a family member whose car had gotten stuck in the snow around 9 a.m. Monday, the Washoe County Sheriff said Tuesday.
He tried to jump behind the driver seat of the plow to stop it but was instead run over by the massive plow in a freak accident.
“Based on our investigation, it’s at this point that Mr. Renner [was] run over,” the sheriff said.
