Talk show beef?
Andy Cohen claims James Corden ripped off his âWatch What Happens Liveâ set â which features his iconic bar â for âThe Late Late Show With James Corden.â
âI think there has been a traditional idea of what a late night talk show is, and I would argue that âWatch What Happens Liveâ redefined what the late night talk show is,â Cohen, 54, told celebrity restaurateur Bruce Bozzi on a recent episode of his âTable for Two with Bruce Bozziâ iHeartMedia podcast.
â[WWHL] was the first bar on late night [then] James Corden got a bar.â
The Bravo executive producer then said that âJames Corden kind of wound upâ¦â â before Bozzi completed his sentence by saying, âRipping off your set.â
âThere you go,â Cohen quipped back. âI am so glad weâre still going. That [the show] is, like, great, copy my set ⦠go with God.â
Elsewhere in the interview, Cohen got candid with his pal about feeling left out among the other late night television hosts.
âI donât feel totally part of the [late night television] group and I have been on late night TV for 13 years,” he explained.
“Years ago, there was a big photoshoot that âVanity Fairâ did of all of the late night talk show hosts and they left me out of it, but they added in James Corden who wasnât even on the air yet and Trevor Noah who had just started.â
Cohen â who had been on the air for seven years at that point â noted that famed magazine editor Graydon Carter later apologized to him.
âGraydon later said, âYou know what, you were right, you shouldâve been in that,ââ he recalled.
In addition to âWWHL,â Cohen is also gearing up to host a New Yearâs Eve special on CNN with best friend Anderson Cooper. However, due to his behavior during last yearâs live broadcast, the network has decided to limit his drinking.
Ryan Seacrest, who has been a longtime host of ABCâs âDick Clarkâs New Yearâs Rockinâ Eve,â recently said he was in support of CNNâs decision.
âI donât advocate drinking when one is on the air,â the âAmerican Idolâ host told Entertainment Weekly Monday.
âI donât know how that started as a tradition, but itâs probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN.â
Seacrest, 48, added, âThereâs some pretty respectable people or at least one, right? I think thereâs a serious journalist and then a friend of mine who has a lot of fun, but itâs probably a good idea.â
