A man has been stabbed to death following an argument over a cigarette outside a parking garage off Times Square in New York.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Carlos Rosario of Brooklyn, was walking with his girlfriend in front of a parking garage in Hell’s Kitchen just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when he stopped to ask for a cigarette from a group of three men, the New York Post reported.

One of the three men pulled out a knife at some point during the conversation and allegedly stabbed Rosario in his torso, according to Audacy. The group then fled the scene before the cops arrived.

When police reached the scene, they found Rosario at the garage with a stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed an argument began between Rosario and the group when he asked for a cigarette. One of the men stabbed him in the torso as things escalated.

No arrests have been made in the case as of Wednesday morning, as per ABC7NY, and an investigation into the matter was launched.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the argument was about that led to the stabbing. Furthermore, the details about the deceased victim’s girlfriend, who was with Rosario during the incident, were not revealed by authorities.

Police called on people with any information related to the incident to send their tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or texting 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.

This was seen as another incident in a series of stabbings that took place in New York Tuesday. Earlier in the day, police found a man stabbed at the corner of 183rd Street and University Avenue in the Bronx. The victim, Fitzroy Bennett, 28, was unconscious and unresponsive after sustaining a stab wound to his torso. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Following an investigation, New York Police Department arrested Joel Diaz, 44, from Southern Boulevard, Thursday in connection with the case and charged him with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
