Meghan Markle’s Spotify podcast has been brought back down to earth after initially storming to the top of the charts, while The Joe Rogan Experience has returned to No. 1.

Archetypes has slipped to number 27 in the U.S. charts, one spot behind Jordan Peterson’s show and several places behind Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, which Prince Harry was a guest on in May 2021.

Meanwhile, Joe Rogan’s show is back in the top spot in America, having briefly been dethroned not only by Meghan, but also by Kim Kardashian’s The System.

Kardashian’s real crime series has slumped to No. 48 in the U.S. charts, having hit No. 1 after its launch.

The fact Meghan and Kardashian reached the top spot at all will be cause for celebration in both camps, but the rapid drop in the rankings for both shows demonstrates how difficult it is to achieve the kind of dominance Rogan has enjoyed.

Rogan recently took a passing swipe at Meghan during the latest episode of his own show, suggesting she might bail.

Harry and Meghan also, in January 2022, backed celebrities who took a stance against Rogan’s comments during his podcast about the coronavirus vaccine.

The Duchess of Sussex’s podcast stormed into the charts at No. 1 after it launched on August 25 with an episode about ambitious women, featuring an interview with Serena Williams.

The show caused a wave of headlines after Meghan took a veiled swipe at the palace with an anecdote about being forced to return to work after a fire broke out in the nursery where her son Archie, then a baby, was supposed to be sleeping.

The near miss came on the first day of their tour of South Africa in September 2019, a few months before they quit the royal family.

Archetypes remained in pole position after the second episode a week later explored the trope of the diva with singer Mariah Carey.

After its third episode, the podcast then took a pause during mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at Balmoral on September 8.

By September 13, Rogan had recaptured his throne, but Meghan’s show was still in second place, leaving the prospect open that she might return to the top spot.

Archetypes came back on October 4 with an episode titled The Demystification of the Dragon Lady, the day after Kim Kardashian’s The System launched in a hail of publicity.

Kardashian landed the top spot in the Spotify charts, nudging Meghan and Rogan to one side.

However, in November—and 10 episodes in—Archetypes has slipped further down the pecking order leaving the prospect of a return to the top spot unlikely with only a handful of episodes still to come.

Archetypes remains at No. 4 among “society and culture” podcasts in America and it has been nominated for a People’s Choice Award.

Among those proud of its success is Rebecca Sananès, Meghan and Prince Harry’s head of audio, whose website still reads: “Most recently she is the Creator and Executive Producer of the #1 ranked show on Spotify, Archetypes, The Duchess of Sussex’s flagship podcast show.”
