The Sims 4 Legacy Edition players will need to make sure they take the proper precautions if they want to be able to continue playing the game.
When EA releases a new update for The Sims 4 next month, the game will cease working for several PC and Mac users. This will affect the Legacy Edition of the game, which was introduced when EA upgraded the base game to give Sims 4 users a better core experience. However, the older version of the base game, which some players relied on due to more stringent system requirements, will soon cease to be available.
The Sims 4 Legacy Edition helped ensure that PCs with 32-bit operating systems, including those with older Windows software, and anyone running Mac OS outside of the Metal architecture would be able to continue running the game. As of the update, online features, certain modes and expansions before University will work with The Sims 4 Legacy Edition. However, if you have newer content you want to run with this new iteration, you’re stuck without support.

The Sims 4: How to Keep Playing on Older Computers
The new Sims 4 update that will essentially force players to “say goodbye” to the Legacy Edition is set to debut December 12. After that, the older version will no longer be available.
If that will affect you and you can’t use a different version of the game, there are still options for you. EA has suggested that PC players will need to upgrade their setups from 32 to 64 bit, or install The Sims 4 on any device they may already have that includes a 64 bit OS. Alternatively, Mac users will need a Metal Mac OS to continue playing The Sims 4, and that will need to be version 10.11 or higher.
You won’t need to start over, thankfully. EA has lined out a way to make sure all of your saves have been transferred over before the new Sims 4 update occurs. It may be a bit inconvenient, but at least there are still ways to continue playing, and you’ll be able to keep the same progress you had before without having to start over completely.
