Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s elderly father is considering suing Netflix over two of its hit series about his infamous son, according to a report.
Lionel Dahmer, 86, is reportedly upset that he was never contacted regarding Netflix’s popular series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” which was released in September, his caretaker told the US Sun.
The Milwaukee Cannibal’s dad was also irked that Netflix never sought permission to use tape recordings from his son’s legal team used in the streaming giant’s other Jeffrey Dahmer docuseries, “Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes,” which was released earlier this month.
Both series have sparked a renewed fascination with Jeffrey Dahmer, who killed 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991. The murderer has become so popular in light of the new shows, people are dressing as him for Halloween.
Lionel Dahmer has been living quietly in rural Ohio. He’s refused to speak since the release of the Netflix series, but is reportedly a “nervous wreck” as his son’s fans have showed up at his property, the report said.
Dahmer’s assistant, who wished to only be identified as Jeb, told The Sun that he has decided to arm himself for protection given the sudden craze.
He told that outlet that “from everything that I’ve seen and witnessed personally, Lionel was not contacted about either of these shows on Netflix.
“I’ve personally talked to a few lawyers and we’ve talked to his publisher about it too due to all the chaos that is going on and the stories we’ve seen,” he said.
“Lionel and his power of attorney are gathering information and looking at a possible lawsuit against the production team or possibly Netflix,” adding that “There was zero care whatsoever about Lionel’s wellbeing.”
Lionel Dahmer was previously in the national spotlight after his son was arrested in 1991 for the heinous murders.
He published a memoir, “A Father’s Story,” about Jeffrey Dahmer in 1994 — just months before Dahmer was bludgeoned to death in prison by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver.
In the book, he recounted how he had no idea that his son was a murderer before his arrest.
Jeb told The Sun that while he has not watched the new Netflix series in full, he feels as if Lionel Dahmer was not portrayed fairly.
“Lionel was a very caring father. He was just trying to do his best in a time of uncertainty, he said.
“He thinks that none of this should have been made, all the information that needs to be public is right there in his book. Everything else is just glamorized and provides attention to details that aren’t proven fact.”
“When I asked Lionel what he wanted me to tell people, he said: ‘Everything I have to say is in my book.’ But that’s as far as he goes,” the assistant said.
“Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” developed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, is the second-most popular Netflix show ever behind season 4 of Stranger Things.
