If you watched Netflix‘s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and walked away thinking, “I have the perfect Halloween costume,” we’ve got news for you: no, you don’t. The show, which is apparently driving up Jeffrey Dahmer costume sales, has prompted eBay to ban such items from its site following the popularity of the Ryan Murphy series.

Variety reports that eBay is removing Dahmer-related props and costumes because they violate the site’s terms and conditions. The outlet says a “surge of listings for Dahmer-related costumes” has flooded eBay since the Dahmer premiere.

A spokesperson for eBay confirmed to Buzzfeed News that the retailer has been removing previously listed items, which have included a prison jumpsuit and mask, plus glasses like Dahmer’s.

Such items don’t align with eBay’s company policy, which prohibits listings “promote or glorify violence or violent acts, or are associated with individuals who are notorious for committing violent acts.”

Dahmer is portrayed by Evan Peters in Murphy’s new show, which has dominated the Netflix charts since it first premiered in late September. Just yesterday (Oct. 18), Netflix released new numbers proving Dahmer‘s continued popularity; the show pulled was viewed for 122.78 million hours in the past week, and has been viewed for 824.15 million hours in total.

All the hype can make it easy to gloss over the grisly details of Dahmer’s crimes, which is really the only possible explanation we can think of for why people would search for a Dahmer Halloween costume on eBay.

Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer killed 17 men and boys and “engaged in horrific cruelty with their bodies, including necrophilia, cannibalism and dismemberment,” per Buzzfeed.

The families of his victims are incensed by Netflix’s series, including Shirley Hughes, who has noticed the interest in Dahmer costumes and told TMZ the show was upsetting enough, but seeing people dress as her son’s killer for a holiday is even worse.

Shirley said “Dahmer was pure evil,” TMZ reports, and she “doesn’t understand how the folks who choose to dress like him can sleep at night.”

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is now streaming on Netflix.
