Mayim Bialik has revealed her mom’s unusual routine every time one of her Jeopardy! episode airs.
Actress, scientist, filmmaker and now shared host of Jeopardy!, Bialik spoke about her family’s reaction to her new job while appearing as a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Bialik, 46, took over hosting Jeopardy! in 2021 and shares hosting duties with Ken Jennings. She has told Newsweek about her experiences on the show, opening up about the fan reaction to her new hosting role.
Discussing the reaction of her family with Corden, she said her mom in particular has become invested.
“She was excited, but she didn’t know anything about what Jeopardy! is. She kept asking me, ‘Why is everything in a question?’ That’s a true story,” Bialik said.
Jeopardy! has been on the air in various forms since 1964, making it one of the longest-running shows on U.S. TV.
Now that Bialik’s mom has become an avid watcher, Mayim said that she receives a text after every one of her episodes airs.
“She will send me screenshots of every episode in case I forgot what I was wearing in that particular episode. I’ll get a little report like, ‘I really liked this blazer, not so crazy about this top.’
“And she always manages to capture like a screenshot where I’m like,” Bialik pauses to imitate an unflattering facial expression, “in the middle of it, and I would just think like, ‘She’s got a whole half-hour find a better screenshot.’”
While host Corden and guest Max Greenfield said they would be bad at the game, bandleader and comedian Reggie Watts is taking part as a guest in the current season of Celebrity Jeopardy!
“You know who was good? This guy,” Bialik said gesturing to Watts, 50, “He’s an exceptionally smart, well-read, well-versed human.” Bialik refused to be drawn into saying whether Watts won or lost his episode.
The first episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! aired on Sunday with 33-year-old Marvel star Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) beating the favorite Andy Richter, 55, and SNL’s Ego Nwodim, 34, to advance to the semifinal.
The October 2 show will feature Watts competing against comedian Iliza Shlesinger, 39, and chef Eddie Huang, 40. The following week will see actress Constance Wu, 40, come up against comedian Ike Barinholtz, 45, and former NBA star Jalen Rose, 49.
