Olivia Wilde is putting an end to “Spitgate.”
In a preview clip of Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the “Don’t Worry Darling” director defended her boyfriend, Harry Styles, amid claims he spit on Chris Pine.
“He did not,” Wilde, 38, said with a laugh when Colbert asked.
“I think it’s a perfect example of people who look for drama anywhere they can. Harry did not spit on Chris, in fact. He really didn’t!”
Earlier this month, many speculated that the “Watermelon Sugar” singer, 28, spit on Pine, 42, after a video that allegedly caught the moment at the Venice Film Festival went viral.

In the clip, the Grammy-winning singer went to take a seat next to Pine, who was sitting next to Wilde. However, when the singer-turned-actor bent down to take his seat, many said he spit on the actor, who froze in place before letting out a sly smile.
Although fans were convinced they saw saliva leave Styles’ mouth, Pine’s reps quickly shut down the rumors.
“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation,” the rep told People.
“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men, and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”
Styles also addressed the rumors during a New York City concert a few days later.
“This is our 10th show at Madison Square Garden. It is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful to be back here,” he said at the beginning of his “Love on Tour: Madison Square Garden Is Harry’s House” performance.
“I just popped over to Venice to spit on Chris Pine, but fear not, we’re back!” he said as the crowd burst into cheers.
“Spitgate” was just one of many rumors the cast of “DWD” has had to work through this year.
Wilde came under heat last month when she claimed to have fired Shia LaBeouf from the film in an effort to protect Florence Pugh — which a leaked video later contradicted.
Fans guessed this could’ve been one of the reasons Pugh and Wilde seem to have had a falling out.
However, other people attribute Pugh’s cold behavior to the romance between Wilde and Styles that developed on set.
