When Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle created this five-letter word puzzle for his girlfriend in October 2021, he could have hardly imagined thousands and thousands of people would love it, and would still be playing the game nearly a year later.

And yet, Wordle has become a world’s sensation, to the point that the New York Times bought the game off Wardle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum in January and added it to its repertoire of puzzles and brainteasers (though Wordle is not behind the newspaper’s paywall—yet).

The game is today the same that Wardle had initially intended—a totally randomized puzzle where players have the same chances at guessing the word of the day, which can range from the extremely familiar to the hardly-ever-heard.

The answer to Thursday, August 25’s Wordle could be listed among the extremely familiar. The word might bring pleasant childhood memories to some, and inspire an “irrational”—so it’s said—fear in others. But it’s almost certain all players would have used this word at least once in their lifetime.

Here’s our tips on how to solve the latest offering from the incredibly popular word game.

‘Wordle’ #432 Tips and Clues for Thursday, August 25

The answer to Wordle #432 can be found at the bottom of this page. So, if you just want a few hints to help you with the August 25 word but you want to get to the solution yourself, scroll down carefully.

These clues should nudge you in the right direction:

Hint #1: The word starts with the letter “C.”

Hint #2: Today’s Wordle contains only one vowel.

Hint #3: It ends with the letter “N.”

Hint #4: The word technically indicates someone who makes people laugh for work, but it’s also commonly used as a discrediting insult.

‘Wordle’ #432 Answer for Thursday, August 25

The answer to today’s Wordle is “CLOWN.”

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as a noun that means “a fool, jester, or comedian in an entertainment (such as a play) specifically: a grotesquely dressed comedy performer in a circus,” “a person who habitually jokes and plays the buffoon” and “a rude ill-bred person.”

Joe Biden called Donald Trump a “clown” in September 2020 during the first televised debate approaching the presidential election where the now-president had been interrupted several times, saying “this man doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Later, Biden said he regretted calling Trump a “clown,” and said he should have called Trump’s behavior “clownish.”

Wordle refreshes every 24 hours at 7 p.m. ET. While you wait for the next puzzle to appear, you might want to check out some alternative word games.
