Jimmy Kimmel Live! has enlisted a number of celebrity guests to fill in for regular host Jimmy Kimmel over the summer.
The late-night ABC talk show is normally hosted by Kimmel, 54, but recently he has not been appearing on the show, as he is taking a summer break.
So far in August, names like comedian and host Nicole Byer, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Rob McElhenney, Little Fires Everywhere‘s Kerry Washington and black-ish star Anthony Anderson have stepped into Kimmel’s shoes, but who is taking the reins on the August 24 episode?
Newsweek has everything you need to know about Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight, and who the show’s guests will be.
Who Is the Guest Host on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tonight?
The guest host on the August 24 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be Simu Liu.
Liu is perhaps best known for his role as Shang-Chi in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and has also starred on CBC sitcom Kim’s Convenience.
He will be joined on the show by guests Mandy Moore from This Is Us, comedian and writer Jimmy O. Yang, and musician Amelia Moore.
On Thursday, August 25, FBoy Island host Nikki Glaser will host Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Danny DeVito, Jameela Jamil and Ingrid Andress will appear as guests.
Why Is Jimmy Kimmel Not On Jimmy Kimmel Live!?
Jimmy Kimmel has handed over Jimmy Kimmel Live! to his celebrity guest hosts due to him taking his annual summer vacation.
His extended summer break is reportedly part of the three-year contract the host signed in 2019 to keep his show on ABC.
At the time of his first hiatus in June 2020, the host reassured fans: “There’s nothing wrong, I’m healthy, my family’s healthy, I just need a couple of months off.”
When Is Jimmy Kimmel Coming Back to Jimmy Kimmel Live!?
Kimmel should be back on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the fall when his summer break is over. Although no specific date has been confirmed by ABC, in 2021 he returned from his vacation on September 7, so it’s likely he’ll be back at a similar time this year.
The previously-mentioned contract that Kimmel signed in 2019 runs out at the end of 2022 and while the host is yet to confirm whether or not he will not sign another contract, he has stated that he won’t be fronting the show “forever.”
Speaking to Variety about his contract running out, he said: “I wish I knew I was gonna do. I have moments where I go, ‘I cannot do this anymore.’ And I have moments where I go, ‘what am I gonna do with my life if I’m not doing this anymore?’”
Kimmel, who has four children, continued: “It’s a very complicated thing. And there are practical considerations, and there are family and friend considerations and co-worker considerations. And eventually, I am going to have to stop doing this. I’m not going to do this forever. I would not be honest at all if I said that I have decided one way or the other. I’m thinking about it a lot, though.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET / 10:35 p.m. CT on ABC.
