Nicki Minaj stopped her set in New Orleans on Friday to seemingly throw shade at Kanye West.
During her headlining performance at the Essence Festival of Culture, the rapper, 39, told her DJ to pull the plug on âMonster,â a song she worked on with West, 45, in 2010.
âIâm âMonsterâ-ed out, and we donât fâk with clowns,â she explained to the crowd, before changing the subject and saying she wanted to âgive a shout-out to New Orleans.â
Interestingly enough, the apparent dig came on the same day Cardi B released her new song âHot Sât,â which features West.
As many of her beloved Barbz know, Minaj has publicly feuded with Cardi, 29, in the past.
Though itâs unclear exactly why Minaj chose to seemingly throw shade at Ye during her set, some fans speculated that the two had a falling out. They believe tension built amid drama surrounding Yeâs God-centric album and the canceled release of their song âNew Body.â
The two rappers were originally expected to release the song on the canceled album “Yandhi,” which was scrapped and replaced with West’s album “Jesus is King.”

Minaj spoke out in 2019 about the highly anticipated âNew Bodyâ collaboration with West, telling The Shade Room at the time that she and the Chicago-born rapper werenât âseeing eye to eye on it.â
Minaj then admitted that there was some tension between the two artists and their never-released song in a February interview.
She claimed Ye had her rewrite her verse âfour times over in order to fit into where [Kanye West] was creatively and spiritually, only to then go on the internet a few months later to see [West] on Drink Champs.â
