The most coveted college football recruit in recent memory has committed to a school for the 2023 season. Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, announced that he’s going to the University of Texas.

Arch Manning is a star quarterback at New Orleans’ Isidore Newman High School and the No. 1 ranked overall recruit in the 2023 class. As he heads into his senior year, Manning chose the Longhorns over the likes of Alabama and Georgia.

A long list of the nation’s top college football programs made offers to Manning. LSU, Clemson and Notre Dame attempted to land Manning. Manning also turned down offers from Ole Miss and Tennessee, where Eli and Peyton played, respectively, before being drafted as first-overall picks.

Arch Manning passed on playing for either Alabama or Georgia just a few months after the SEC rivals met in the national championship game. Instead, the five-star recruit is going to Texas, which is coming off a losing season and hasn’t been a national title contender in 13 years.

If Manning lives up to the hype, he can help restore Texas as a college football powerhouse. The quarterback seemingly has a chance to start for the Longhorns as a freshman, given the lofty expectations that have been placed upon him.

Manning has thrown for 5,731 yards and 72 touchdowns in his three-year high school football career. In the 2021 season, he threw for 26 touchdowns and four interceptions while adding 381 yards and seven scores on the ground, according to 247Sports.

Arch Manning is the son of Cooper Manning, who committed to play at Ole Miss before spinal stenosis ended his football career.
