Tech mogul Elon Musk is brushing aside a bombshell report accusing him of sexual misconduct by calling the allegations politically motivated, saying he’ll keep fighting for free speech.
Musk on Thursday posted a defiant tweet hours after Insider published a report that he allegedly offered a flight attendant a horse for an erotic massage, leading to a $250,000 settlement. The tweet is the latest by Musk criticizing progressives and Democrats, as he’s positioned himself as a champion of free speech.
“The attacks against me should be viewed through a political lens—this is their standard (despicable) playbook—but nothing will deter me from fighting for a good future and your right to free speech,” Musk wrote in the tweet.
The report by Insider, based on interviews and documents, centers around a 2016 incident where Musk allegedly exposed himself to a flight attendant and offered to buy her a horse if she would “do more.” The flight attendant was an employee at SpaceX and settled with the aerospace company headed by Musk for a quarter million dollars, alleges the report.
Musk has denied the allegations, calling the report a “politically motivated hit piece.”
In the lead-up to the report’s publication, Musk has cryptically tweeted that he would no longer vote for Democrats and alluded to a “dirty tricks campaign” against him. In his bid to acquire Twitter, Musk has presented himself as a free speech champion, criticizing the platform’s uneven enforcement of community standards and drawing praise from conservatives who’ve complained of censorship.
“Where were these wild accusations against @elonmusk before he took a stand against the establishment?” Tara Bull, CEO of Cucumber Capital, responded to Musk Thursday evening.
“Exactly,” replied Musk.
