Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly been “invited” to reunite with the royal family for an appearance on the iconic Buckingham Palace balcony.
According to the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth II wants the California-based couple to attend her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the UK.
The outlet reports that if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decide to travel for the festivities in June, they will not have a “formal role” throughout the weekend-long event or take part in the Trooping the Colour parade.
However, they would appear at several events, the outlet reports, including a service of thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s 70th year on the throne.
The publication further reported that while their presence would “mean a lot to Her Majesty,” it would involve a “leap of faith” from both parties amid ongoing tensions.
Kensington Palace has not commented on the accuracy of the report.
Harry, 37, recently divulged some of the details from the private conversation he had with his grandmother, 95, ahead of the Invictus Games over the weekend. He and Markle, 40, paid a quick visit to the Queen and Prince Charles before traveling to mainland Europe.
“She had plenty of messages for Team UK, which I have already passed on to most of them,” Harry told the BBC on Monday. “So, it was great to see her. I’m sure she would love to be here if she could.”
The meeting was one of their first face-to-face discussions since he and Markle officially resigned from their royal duties in February 2021.
Many are hoping that the couple’s UK visit – and presence at the Invictus Games, which Harry founded in 2014 – will aid in making mends across the pond.
“They need a win. They are never going to get a win with some people in England, probably the majority,” one highly placed royal source told Page Six last week.
“But their appearance at the Invictus Games may reignite the pocket of support they have among a certain young demographic in the UK.”
