Nicolas Cage is more than just an actor. The animal lover recently revealed the purchase of an $80,000 two-headed snake.
For the April issue of GQ, Cage stuns on the front cover posing with a snake, which is one of the topics discussed in the interview. The 58-year-old actor detailed a dream that eventually lead to the purchase of a two-headed snake.
The dream, however, wasn’t about a snake, but about a two-headed bald eagle. The following day, a man called Cage who wanted to sell a two-headed snake. For $80,000, Cage became the owner of the two-headed reptile. To feed his new pet, Cage had to put a spatula between the snake’s dual heads to avoid them attacking each other for their food. As the care of the animal became too much, Cage donated the snake to a zoo where it passed away at 14 years old.
This isn’t the only animal that Cage has had in his Las Vegas home. When the owner of a local pet shop, Cage’s favorite, had passed away, the actor took in a few turtles and a fish. They now live in his aquarium located in his kitchen.
“My job is to care for them, make sure they’re happy and safe,” he said.
He also has a “kind and loving” cat named Merlin.
“Sometimes he puts his arm around me when he’s sleeping, and I think it’s my wife, and I go, ‘Oh, Riko.’ And then it’s Merlin,” he added, referring to his fifth wife, Riko Shibata. The two have been married since 2021 and announced in January they are expecting their first child together.
“I’m really happily married. I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time,” he said.
Animals and family aside, Cage has a new movie on the way, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself as he struggles with financial problems as a “has been” actor. He accepts a $1 million offer to attend his biggest fan Javi’s (played by Pedro Pascal) birthday party in Spain.
When members of the CIA inform Cage on Javi’s background, Cage must defend himself from his biggest fan’s intentions. The film also pays tribute to some of Cage’s most iconic movie characters. The film also stars Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, Lily Mo Sheen, and Ike Barinholtz.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent arrives in theaters April 22.
