A woman claimed in a now-viral video that she once received an alarming text from her sister about the man she was dating.

In the video, posted to TikTok earlier this month by jsthurst, the woman shared a screenshot of the message, which included a collage of the man’s mugshots. So far, the post has received more than 167,000 likes and over 12,000 likes, while serving as an important reminder for viewers to Google their dates before diving into a relationship.

“When you’re dating a guy for two months and your sister does a deep dive of them,” read the video’s caption.

The video opens with a screenshot of the text jsthurst received from her sister.

“Hey,” her sister said. “I’m going to freak you out.”

In her next text, jsthurst’s sister sent the collection of mugshots.

“Most recent is assault and strangulation,” her sister told jsthurst. “Also he’s 25 years old.”

Soon after receiving her sister’s texts, jsthurst messaged the man to confront him about, not only his criminal record but also about his true age, which he’d purportedly lied about. According to a screenshot she provided, the man didn’t apologize for any of his alleged wrongdoings. Instead, he doled out a list of excuses that are hard to make sense of.

“It’s a crazy situation that I don’t expect you to understand,” he texted jsthurst.

When it comes to dating, psychotherapist Katherine Schlafer, LMHC told Glamour that it’s “totally, 100 percent OK, healthy,” and often “fun” to Google someone’s name ahead of a first date.

Speaking to Elite Daily, dating expert Carmelia Ray explained that it’s important to Google a date’s name because, “You may find accomplishments, a LinkedIn profile to show professional history, or any other important information, such as a criminal record, red flags, or inappropriate content.”

For example, a TikToker named Shaina Kay Cardwell claimed that she once Googled a man she’d been talking to on Hinge only to discover that he’d previously been arrested for aggravated kidnapping.

Another TikToker named Jocelyn said she realized she was being catfished by someone from Bumble after performing a reverse image search of the photos he’d used on his dating profile.

“As if dating wasn’t hard enough already,” said Jocelyn.

Jsthurst’s viewers were stunned by the information she shared in her video and commended her sister for potentially saving her life.

“Your sister literally probably saved your life,” wrote cleodaprincess.

“Sister needs a diamond-studded hero cape,” said Nicole.

“The way he played it off like it’s no big is MAJOR [RED FLAG]. Glad your sister had your back. May of saved your life truly,” added PNW_Mama33.
