United States Representative Lauren Boebert was recorded joking about shooting wolf pups in a clip that’s going viral on social media.
Boebert is seen speaking on a stage to a crowd of people at an event for Representative Anthony Sabatini in the video. Sabatini is a candidate in the 2022 House of Representatives elections in Florida.
The video was posted on Twitter by the page Patriot Takes on March 4, but it’s from an event from February. It already has had over 130,000 views.
In the video, Boebert discusses a conversation she had with representative Matt Gaetz about shooting wolf pups. She recalls having the conversation in the House not long after becoming a Representative.
“Lauren Boebert said Matt Gaetz and herself talked about gunning down reintroduced wolf pups in Colorado with her glock to make ‘little hats’ out of the baby’s fur,” the caption read.
“When I first got to Congress, I was sitting in the House floor with Congressman Gaetz,” Boebert said in the video.
“‘[He asked] so what are some top issues for you there in Colorado?’
“And I said, ‘well gosh, I guess at a state level, they just brought wolves into my district. We delisted these suckers and now they’re bringing them in.’
“[Gaetz] is like ‘oh Boebert the wolves. They’re so cute. The pups they’re [so cute]. What are you gonna do? You could go in there with your glock and get us a baby.’ “Make a little hat,” Boebert added.
Viewers of the video took to the comment section to criticize Boebert, with some claiming the Congresswoman regularly makes controversial comments.
Newsweek has contacted Lauren Boebert for comment.
Boebert recently faced criticism for an outburst she made during President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union speech.
During the speech on March 1, Boebert heckled the president as he was about to discuss the death of his son.
Biden was describing the impact burn pits were having on U.S. soldiers who fought in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As Biden said these soldiers could get cancer and end up “in a flag-draped coffin” from inhaling fumes at burn pits, Boebert shouted: “You put them in. Thirteen of them.”
This appeared to be a reference to the 13 U.S. service members who were killed in a suicide attack at Kabul airport as troops were withdrawing from Afghanistan while it was being retaken by the Taliban last year.
Boebert defended her outburst in a Twitter post, following the online criticism she received.
“When Biden said flag-draped coffins I couldn’t stay silent. I told him directly he did it. He put 13 in there,” Boebert said.
“Our heroic servicemen and women deserve so much better.”
