Hundreds of Irish protesters were seen on video harassing a car that was traveling into the Russian Embassy in Dublin.

In a video posted to Twitter by Dr. Cara Augustenborg, an assistant professor at University College Dublin, the protesters can be seen waving Ukrainian flags and chanting that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is a liar.”

In several other videos posted to Twitter, the protesters can be seen surrounding the car and chanting “go home.” The video also shows one protester draping a Ukrainian flag over the car as it is attempting to travel toward the embassy.

Other photos and videos captured dozens of other protesters displaying Ukrainian flags and signs in opposition of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.

The protests outside the Russian Embassy in Dublin come as war continues in Ukraine after Russian military forces made their way into the country on Thursday. On Friday morning, there were several reports of missile strikes in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The United Nations reported that at least 25 citizens in Ukraine were killed by Russian missile strikes but noted that the death toll could be higher.

Neale Richmond, an Irish Fine Gael politician, shared a picture of himself at the protests outside of the Russian Embassy on Friday.

“Joining protestors at the Russian Embassy, located in my constituency of Dublin Rathdown,” Richmond wrote on Twitter. “The Russian Ambassador is here as a guest of the State, as Russia wages war in #Ukraine, the Ambassador is no longer welcome here. He must be expelled.”

In addition to the protests outside of the Russian Embassy in Dublin on Friday, protesters rallied on Thursday and photos showed red paint smeared on the embassy’s entrance.

“Entrance to Russian embassy in Dublin covered in red paint during a small protest outside main gates,” Twitter user Dimitri O’Donnell of RTE News wrote as a caption to the picture.

Earlier this week, the European Union announced a number of sanctions against Russia and Putin. In a statement, Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said, “Ireland, along with the other EU Member States, is unwavering in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“Russia’s illegal actions have left the EU with no choice but to introduce comprehensive and extensive sanctions. We have made clear our support for these measures, even though they will not be cost-free for Ireland or for other EU Member States. Following the most recent escalation by Russia, a second package of hard-hitting sanctions will be introduced very shortly, in coordination with our international partners,” the statement said.

Newsweek reached out to the Russian Embassy in Dublin for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
