John Wall has yet to see action this season, but the 31-year-old is making sure he remains in shape.
The top pick of the 2010 NBA Draft is reportedly working out on his own in Miami, and now some are taking it as a sign of things to come.
It is a curious move on the part of the former NBA Slam Dunk champion, preferring to work out by himself than with his Houston Rocket teammates.
However, Marc J. Spears of ESPN shed more light on why Wall is in Miami and it has nothing to with an impending move to the South Beach squad.
“He’s been working out. He actually asked the Rockets for permission to be in Miami so he could be near his kids and focus on working out,” Spears explained.
Wall joining the Hear hardly makes sense as most know that the guard rotation is already loaded with Kyle Lowry, Tyler Herro, Kyle Guy, Duncan Robinson and Victor Oladipo.
Unless Heat president Pat Riley gives up some of those players, the only way Miami can get Wall is if he agrees to a buyout with the Houston Rockets.
Unfortunately, that is not an option for the five-time All-Star who is not interested in a buyout with the Rockets. This was made clear by his agent Rich Paul.
Wall’s name has been mentioned in several trade scenarios involving the Los Angeles Lakers for Russell Westbrook and the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmon.
The reason behind this is the money that is owed to the 6-foot-3 guard.
But given his injury history and the fact that he has yet to play a game this season, it may be too risky to take for the Heat and other interested teams.
Wall is set to make $44 million this 2021-22 season and more than $47 million next NBA season.
So unless the Rockets find a team willing to absorb the huge amount, Wall will just have to wait and make sure that he is ready in case something transpires by the NBA trade deadline.
