One month has passed since chaos at The View unfolded after hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro tested positive for COVID-19 live on air, and now, it appears one person has taken the fall for the incident. According to a new report from The Daily Beast, the show’s in-house nurse Wendy Livingston has since been cut from the talk show.
Sources have told The Daily Beast that following the fiasco, The View has ditched Livingston, the show’s “health and safety manager.” Prior to the on air events on Sept. 24, she oversaw the daytime talk show’s regular testing of personnel as well as its adherence to coronavirus protocols. Although Livingston remains a network employee, two sources have stated that she has stopped performing her medical duties for The View.
“Wendy has not been fired,” an ABC spokesperson said. “She remains a part of the health & safety team supporting testing and vaccine verification.”
On the day of the incident, Vice President Kamala Harris was set to visit the panel in-studio. Her office required all of the show’s hosts to take a PCR test within 24 hours of her live, on-set interview. The tests all came back negative, giving the White House the “all clear” for Harris to appear — but when two tests later came back positive, The White House reportedly felt “duped” and angered about how everything unfurled.
Although Harris still gave her interview virtually, the VP’s office was left feeling “deeply concerned” about the incident, CNN reported, and ABC News President Kim Godwin, who attended the taping, was also “irked and embarrassed by the whole fiasco.”
So, naturally, someone had to take the blame for the whole situation — although Nurse Wendy was labeled a “health-care hero” in a tribute just months ago. She was honored on-air for National Nurses Week back in May 2021, in which a four-minute video segment celebrated her with glowing tributes from the cast and crew.
“Today, we want to spotlight a nurse who has truly become a health-care hero to those around her,” Behar said, adding in the tribute: “She is our own Florence Nightingale.”
“A very special thank you to Nurse Wendy for everything you’ve done to keep The View family safe and sound,” Navarro said in the tribute.
“Thank you so much, Wendy, for keeping us safe this year,” Hostin said. “I have never had so many cotton swabs up my nose in my lifetime.”
