As several conspiracy theories surfaced about Brian Laundrie’s family being aware about the 23-year-old’s whereabouts, a Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against the former’s father, Christopher Laundrie.
The woman, identified as Andra Griffin of Bradenton, submitted the suit in Sarasota County court Monday. In the lawsuit, she claimed Brian’s father removed a Gabby Petito lawn sign she placed outside the Laundrie home in North Port. While talking to the Insider, Griffin claimed she filed the case in an attempt to irritate the family enough to “break their silence” on the case.
The sign read, “What if it was Cassie?” in reference to Christopher’s daughter, WFLX reported.
“On or about the morning of October 16th, 2021, the Defendant, Christopher Laundrie, came out of his home, walked up to the sign, stole it and walked back onto his property,” the lawsuit alleged.
Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino told Insider on Tuesday the family was being “harassed with lawsuits for a $40 sign that was more than likely on their property and should be considered litter.”
The lawsuit comes as several protesters have been gathering outside the Laundrie family home calling for justice for Petito. The 22-year-old YouTuber’s body was found on Sept. 19 at a national park in Wyoming, at least three weeks after the coroner estimated she was killed. The coroner ruled on Oct. 12 the cause of her death to be strangulation.
A warrant had been issued against Brian for illegally using Petito’s credit card to make a purchase or withdraw $1,000 between Aug. 30 and Sept.1. Brian arrived at his parents’ house alone on Sept. 1, according to authorities, but no one in his family reported Petito missing. However, it has been more than five weeks since Brian has been missing.
Brian is the only one named as a person of interest in the case. Despite a search led by the FBI, there have been no concrete clues as to his whereabouts.
There have been several conspiracy theories making the rounds regarding Brian’s location. Earlier this week, actress Kirstie Alley tweeted he could be hiding in the “crawlspace” in his Florida house. Petito’s mother also claimed in an interview that she believes Brian’s parents are withholding crucial information about her daughter’s death and their son’s disappearance.
