An inmate at a juvenile jail in Oklahoma was shot and killed Saturday during a standoff with police, after a correction officer was taken hostage, according to reports.
The officer was rescued and is recovering in a local hospital, News 9 reporter Storme Jones Tweeted, citing Oklahoma City police.
Inmates at the Oklahoma County Detention Center — an 80-bed facility for juveniles in Oklahoma City — reportedly took the officer’s keys and tied him up sometime Saturday afternoon, NBC affiliate KFOR TV reported, citing a public information officer.
The officer was delivering medication to an inmate on the 10th floor when the attack occurred, according to a source cited by KWTV in Oklahoma City. Inmates recorded a video of the hostage and posted a video to the officer’s Facebook page, KFOR reported.
