President Biden posted his first tweet moments after being sworn in on Wednesday, saying he will work to help Americans through the “crises we face.”

“There is no time to waste when it comes to tackling the crises we face. That’s why today, I am heading to the Oval Office to get right to work delivering bold action and immediate relief for American families,” Biden wrote on the @POTUS account at 12:36 p.m., echoing the broad themes of his inaugural address.

Twitter switched over the account, along with that of a number of government accounts associated with the White House, at 12:01 p.m. when Biden officially became the 46th president.

“As President-elect Biden is sworn in on January 20, 2021, Twitter will facilitate the transfer of institutional White House Twitter accounts, including: @WhiteHouse, @POTUS, @VP, @FLOTUS, and @PressSec,” the social media company said in a blog post.

It also said those accounts will not retain the followers they had during the Trump administration when they had millions.

The @POTUS account had 1.6 million followers and wasn’t following anyone by Wednesday afternoon.

Twitter said users who previously followed the accounts of former President Trump or the White House would receive alerts to follow the new Twitter accounts.

The White House and Trump’s previous accounts will be archived.

Twitter permanently banned Trump from its platform following the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, citing “the risk of further incitement of violence.”

A mob of pro-Trump supporters raced past security officials and gained entrance to the building as a joint session of Congress was certifying the Electoral College results, confirming Biden’s win in the November presidential election.

Five people died because of the mayhem, including a Capitol police officer.
