Apple’s upcoming tracker called AirTags may come in two sizes, a prominent leaker has claimed.
A known tipster who goes by the name L0vetodream on Twitter claims that Apple’s AirTags will come in two sizes. The leaker, in a tweet, claimed that a “big one” and “small one” will be “coming soon.”
L0vetodream, who has a noteworthy 87.9% accuracy rate when it comes to leaks about Apple’s products and devices, according to rumor monitoring site AppleTrack, didn’t exactly mention the device in that post.
One of the leaker’s succeeding tweets, however, seemed to indicate that it is indeed the AirTags. This succeeding post simply said the words: “tag TAG.”
The exact sizes of the said AirTags variants are currently unknown. The differences and features are also unclear at the moment. The variation in sizes, however, might hint at different uses.
A smaller AirTag, for example, can be attached to or placed in smaller valuable items that might not suit a large tracking device, such as a set of keys or a small coin purse.
L0vetodream didn’t mention the AirTags’ potential release date or window. The leaker simply opted to say the device is “coming soon.” Another reliable leaker, however, claims that the device might arrive as soon as next month.
According to Jon Prosser, who currently has a formidable 85.5% accuracy rating as per AppleTrack, the AirTags are scheduled to arrive alongside iOS 14.3, which is “supposed” to arrive next month. The new iOS version will contain features enabled for the Cupertino tech giant’s Tile-like trackers, and being released together makes perfect sense.
That said, the exact release date remains unknown at the moment as well. Prosser indicated that the company decided to release the device as it has already completed mass production and is only waiting to be launched to the public.
The AirTags’ release has also been pushed forward due to the delay in the mass production of Apple’s first-ever wireless over-ear headphones under the AirPods branding, the AirPods Studio. Prosser said the company faced a “major hiccup” and had to remove a “few key features” from it.
Apple hasn’t mentioned anything about the AirTags yet and hasn’t confirmed or denied any of these rumors.
