If Trump tries to push through a Supreme Court Justice nominee to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the Democrats could use impeachment to prevent the President from acting on the nomination.
During a conversation with George Stephanopoulos on “This Week,” House Speaker Pelosi revealed the Democrats have several backup plans, and she was specifically asked about the impeachment of Trump or Attorney General William Barr. If Biden wins the election in November and Trump and the Senate proceed with his Supreme Court Justice nomination, anything is possible.
“Well, we have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now, but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country. This president has threatened to not even accept the results of the election with statements that he and his henchmen have made,” she explained.
“So, right now, our main goal, and I think Ruth Bader Ginsburg would want that to be, would be to protect the integrity of the election as we protect the American people from the coronavirus, and that’s — I have faith in the American people on this Sunday morning.”
Pelosi went on to suggest that she isn’t “ruling anything out” when it comes to stalling the nomination.
“We have a responsibility. We’ve taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” she said.
“We have a responsibility to meet the needs of the American people. That is when we weigh the equities of protecting our democracy requires us to use every arrow in our quiver.”
Trump told the media he would most likely nominate a woman, “a very talented, very brilliant woman,” to fill Ginsburg’s seat.
