Bayern Munich is on the prowl for new talent and it appears they are reviving interest in former target Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea FC. There are reports that the Champions League holders have touched base with the 19-year-old’s handlers to discuss a potential move.
It was in 2019 where Bayern made several pitches to get the Engish footballer. That included a $45 million offer that the Blues turned down. Instead, Hudson-Odoi ended up signing a five-year deal with Chelsea.
Der FCB is looking for players to comprise its attacking line. Ivan Perisic left a big void for Hans-Dieter Flick and the name of Hudson-Odoi has cropped up for some reason, Sky Sports reported. Curiously, they are not the only ones in pursuit. RB Leipzig is also interested in the 19-year-old but his weekly salary is something they cannot afford.
Hudson-Odoi was in action during Chelsea’s opener against Brighton. The Blues won 3-1. Last season, the French player scored three goals and had six assists, making 133 appearances for the Blues.
However, Hudson-Odoi faces stiff competition this time around. With new players like Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in tow, the French player needs to work hard and show Lampard that he deserves a place in the first-team.
Despite this, Lampard believes that competition from within would be good for the club. He believes it would provide players the extra push for them to get into the starting lineup.
“The players with the right mentality will up their game, make friends with the players, make them feel welcomed within the squad. Hopefully, then you see levels raised throughout the squad,” Lampard said in a report by Stats Perform News via Yahoo.
It remains to be seen how long Lampard can hold off interest for Hudson-Odoi. In a previous post, it was mentioned that the 19-year-old was not too happy with the lack of playing time, hinting that there could be clubs ready to cash in. Bayern has started exploring their interest and more clubs could be joining in soon.
Lampard was aware of Hudson-Odoi’s predicament but reasons he all he can advise right now is for the French player to keep on training and prove he deserves a spot. The only question is up to when will this hold up with the 19-year-old aware he could get playing time joining other clubs.
