Ellen DeGeneres has the support of Scooter Braun amid the controversies surrounding the talk show host and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
On Saturday, the record executive came to DeGeneres’ defense on Twitter after “Fargo” star Brad Garrett and “Back to the Future” actress Lea Thompson backed claims of the comedian’s “horrible” treatment of staff. Instead of joining her critics, Braun instead decided to send some love to the controversial host.
“People love to take shots at people. They love to see people fall,” he wrote on Twitter. “How quickly so many forget. @TheEllenShow is a kind, thoughtful, courageous human being who stands for what is right and highlights on her show the best of us. She has helped change the views for equality.”
“Needed to say this as I know first hand how she helps so many when we are watching and when we are not. She isn’t about what is popular she is about what is right. Sending love to Ellen today,” he added in another tweet.
Braun’s posts come a few days after DeGeneres sent crew members a letter of apology following former and current “Ellen DeGeneres Show” staffers’ accounts of its “toxic” work environment. The talk show host’s apology prompted a response from Garrett, who claimed on Twitter that DeGeneres’ mistreatment of people is “common knowledge.” His statement was backed by Thompson.
Meanwhile, Braun’s show of support for DeGeneres received mixed reactions on social media. Some Twitter users seemed to appreciate his gesture, while others criticized the entrepreneur.
“When the only person defending you is @scooterbraun it doesn’t look good for you @TheEllenShow,” one person commented.
“Funny i don’t remember you saying anything when demi was being bullied for FAKE stuff,” another Twitter user replied on his post.
“AND he never stood up for Justin when he was getting dragged left and right,” a third netizen wrote.
Some thanked Braun for supporting DeGeneres, especially since not many of the host’s A-list friends came forward to defend her.
“Thanks scooter, yes we are all #IstandbyEllen, her celebrities friends needs to defending her too,” one person commented.
“I believe you are one of the only celebrities speak out on her behalf. Not even her ‘friends’ like JAniston or Pink have made any statements supporting her. You are the epitome of a true friend,” another wrote.
Previously, a source told Page Six that DeGeneres being “mean and incredibly difficult” was something “everybody” was aware of. However, her contract with Warner Bros. may put the latter in a difficult position as bosses would not be able to easily remove her even if they found a replacement of her caliber.
