President Trump lambasted NBC News for enlisting former FBI lawyer Lisa Page — the anti-Trump lovebird whose animus against the administration fueled years of investigation into his campaign and administration — as an on-air contributor.
“You must be kidding???” Trump tweeted Friday night. “This is a total disgrace!”
Page made her first appearance on MSNBC Friday afternoon, Fox News reported, in a segment on the legal feud between Trump and Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Later, NBC News announced that it had hired Page as national security and legal analyst.
Page’s politics-drenched text messages with top FBI agent Peter Strzok revealed intense anti-Trump feelings at the heart of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign — and on the staff of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who continued the Trump-Russia probe through the first two years of Trump’s presidency.
The two, who were carrying on an extramarital affair at the time, were top decision-makers on both investigations — and their private messages mocking Trump and his supporters, made public in December 2017, incited Trump’s charges of bias within the FBI and Department of Justice.
Last month, newly declassified documents proved that Page and Strzok conspired to extend the investigation into Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s choice for National Security Adviser, after the agency failed to find any evidence that Flynn was an agent of Russia.
MSBNC has hired multiple former Obama administration officials — and harsh Trump critics — as commentators, including former CIA Director John Brennan, top Mueller deputy Andrew Weissman, and Chuck Rosenberg, who was chief of staff to former FBI director James Comey.
