After pledging a whopping $1 billion USD to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus, Twitter CEO/co-founder and noted Rick Owens aficionado Jack Dorsey is continuing his charitable spree by committing $3 million USD to Colin Kaepernick‘s Know Your Rights Camp as part of his latest round of StartSmall business grants. Joining donations that’ll help feed the hungry, connect remote indigenous communities to running water and more, Dorsey’s offering will help Kaepernick’s organization with its mission to “advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders.”

Apart from the goals outlined in its mission statement above, the Know Your Rights Camp has recently launched a Legal Defense Initiative to help jailed protestors in the United States, and working with its lawyers to file civil rights cases against police for “terroristic acts.” In the past, KYRC has held youth empowerment events in New York City, Atlanta, Chicago and elsewhere, many of which were attended by Kaepernick himself.
Other donations include — but are not limited to — $5 million USD to Oakland’s World Central Kitchen, which aims to provide meals to the less fortunate during “the ongoing health, economic and humanitarian crises,” $1 million USD to Dig Deep H20, which connects remote Indigenous communities to hot and cold running water, and $500,000 USD to Sister Hearts LA, which gives formerly-convicted offenders a safe space in which to start a new life.
