President Donald Trump spoke to his supporters at a crowded rally at Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania tonight after a day which saw movement on two wildly different political issues.
Early this morning, Democrat leaders announced the contents of two articles of impeachment against the president. An hour later, Democrats announced an agreement with the White House on the USMCA trade bill between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
As expected, Trump addressed both issues for his constituents after telling the Pennsylvania crowd, “You’re so lucky I became your president.”
“I’m only kidding,” Trump added. “I have to say I’m kidding because the fake news back there will take that statement and blow it up.”
“I am thrilled to report that we are ending the NAFTA catastrophe once and for all,” Trump said. “Congress will soon vote on my new trade deal after years of waiting. We’ve been waiting for a long time for Nancy Pelosi to announce USMCA, and she did it on the same day that they announced that they are going to impeach the 45th president of the United States and your favorite president, I think.”
Trump said he understood why Democrats announced both the new trade deal and the impeachment on the same day. “[USMCA is] a huge deal and it plays down the impeachment,” he said. “They’re embarrassed by the impeachment and our poll numbers have gone through the roof because of her stupid impeachment. The silver lining of impeachment and this witch hunt, that’s the reason they approved USMCA and that’s okay with me because they approved it and they are very happy to have it.”
Trump appeared not to take the threat of impeachment seriously, calling the process “impeachment lite.”
“Now, after two and a half years,” Trump said, “now that the Russia witch hunt is dead, a big fat disgusting fraud, Congressional Democrats are pushing the impeachment witch hunt having to do with Ukraine. This is the lightest, weakest impeachment. This is the lightest impeachment in the history of our country by far.”
Reiterating his previous claims that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is “shifty,” Trump said Schiff “didn’t want to say” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had repeatedly declared there was no pressure during the phone call that instigated the impeachment proceedings even though he was aware of that fact.
“He didn’t want to say it, but we said ‘Say it,’” Trump said. “Say it, you bastard, say it. I’d like to force him to say it.”
Speaking about the armed forces, Trump brought up the creation of the U.S. Space Force, which Trump called “where it’s at.”
“We’re opening up the Space Force,” Trump said to the cheers of the crowd. “Everything’s built right here in the United States, and that’s important. We build the greatest weapons, the greatest planes, the greatest ships.”
“We have the greatest military equipment anywhere in the world,” Trump continued. “Rockets and missiles, no place builds it like us. We have the best in the world, and we sell it to allies and they all want to buy from the United States.”
“We are so hot,” Trump said. “We are so hot.”
Trump’s speech was interrupted by a protester who, according to The Hill, wore a “#MeToo” hat and a T-shirt that read, “Grabbing Power Back.”
“Get her out,” Trump said, as law enforcement moved the protester away from the lectern. “That guy wanted to be politically correct. We don’t want to be politically correct.” The crowd cheered.
